Vice President of Development
David Melendez joined Jumpstart in 2018 as Vice President of Development. He oversees the development and marketing departments as well as Jumpstart's strategy for supporting and expanding donor impact and engagement. He is an accomplished executive and development leader with extensive experience in education, higher education, and community-based programs. Prior to Jumpstart, David held senior leadership positions at The Jagels Group and CASA of Los Angeles as well as KCET, the Los Angeles affiliate of public television. He has also held senior development and advancement positions at UCLA, Pepperdine University, Chapman University, and in the California State University system. In addition to fundraising and resource building initiatives, David has worked on numerous funding campaigns supporting programs in early childhood education, teacher training, college access, homelessness and housing security, and various diversity initiatives. Throughout his career, he has taken part in numerous social entrepreneurship and education programs including receiving a Irvine Foundation Fellowship in diversity in higher education. David has also worked with numerous policy makers to bridge education gaps that persist in under-resourced communities. He has volunteered for numerous education and social justice organizations including Amnesty International and the Urban League. Arts, culture, music and cooking are big in the Melendez household as is the World Cup!
