Position Overview

This is an affiliate position of a Jumpstart higher education partner.  All affiliate positions are directly managed by the higher education institution, and not Jumpstart.  Any questions related to position qualifications; hiring process; salary and benefits matters; and general employment should be directed to the partner institution.

The 12-month part-time Workforce Development Specialist at Temple University provides oversight to a grant-funded ECE workforce development initiative.  Specifically, the Specialist will direct all functions of the Jumpstart Workforce Development program. Jumpstart provides language, literacy, and social-emotional direct service programming utilizing an evidence-backed curriculum for preschool children from underserved communities, workforce programming to expand the pipeline of qualified, diverse talent pursuing careers in early education, and policy advocacy to support the early childhood field and promote high-quality early learning for all. Responsibilities include developing and implementing Corps members and preschool teacher training based on the Jumpstart model, recruiting preschool partners, and coaching and supporting Corps members and preschool teachers in implementing the Jumpstart session in their classrooms. The Specialist will also be responsible for the development and execution of training series and a non-credit bearing course for both students and teachers over the course of the program year. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field and at least two years of directly related professional experience working in schools or in the field of education. Must include teacher leadership experience and expertise in ECE education. Experience in developing and leading mentor and coach training programing. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Strong technology/computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, database maintenance and social media
  • Demonstrated success supervising and mentoring adults
  • Awareness of and comfort with issues of diversity, specifically around race, class, and gender, as well as an ability to easily engage in and facilitate discussions about diversity without unduly focusing on them
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to move within diverse communities and environments with ease and confidence
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, flexibility to take on new responsibilities as they arise, and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet goals and deadlines both independently and cooperatively
  • Ability to work evenings for training and coaching
  • Excellent skills in analyzing and solving problems
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple partners and navigate varying interests
  • Strong interpersonal skills, along with the ability to interact with a diverse group of faculty, administrators and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel to schools in Philadelphia for school site visits; some locations may not be accessible by public transportation.

Preferred or Ideal

  • Masters Degree in related field
  • Four years of related experience
  • Experience in an urban public school, with a deep understanding of the opportunities and challenges within that dynamic environment

This is a grant funded position.

This position requires Child Abuse Certifications prior to the commencement of service.
