Position Overview

The Director of Programs works in partnership with Jumpstart’s higher education partners in order to ensure positive outcomes for all children and members involved in the Jumpstart program. The role manages a portfolio of sites at universities/colleges and works closely with campus-based staff to provide joint training and technical assistance for both new and veteran site managers. The Director of Programs monitors overall site performance and goal achievement, partners in planning and problem-solving, and provides guidance and resources to support effective program implementation. They will work closely with site managers to ensure that program quality and child outcomes meet expectations and that services are delivered in alignment with Jumpstart’s mission and core values. The responsibilities of the Director of Programs require demonstrated experience in successfully overseeing all aspects of program management and providing effective training and technical assistance.

The Director of Programs reports directly to a Senior Director of Programs and works closely with other Program Operations staff and collaborates with other internal department staff throughout the network.

Programmatic Oversight

  • Maintain thorough knowledge of each site’s goals, characteristics, and program/funder requirements in order to provide accurate guidance and advisement
  • Implement quality assurance processes to increase the effectiveness of Jumpstart programming for children served and members engaged
  • Conduct virtual check-ins on a regular basis and provide remote training and technical assistance support customized based on partners’ quality assessments and partners’ requests for support
  • Conduct in-person site visits on a periodic basis to observe site performance
  • Provide coaching activities as needed
  • Monitor key performance indicators and require action plans and follow-up as needed
  • Develop or advocate for resources and training and technical assistance tools based on common challenges experienced by sites
  • Support campus-based and site staff in the annual site application process to set annual program goals and budgets

Relationship and Partnership Management

  • Manage relationships with a cohort of higher education partners and oversee the maintenance or expansion of these partnerships
  • Assist with resolving relationship and partnership issues as they arise across Jumpstart departments or within the broader network
  • Partner with internal legal and compliance staff to monitor site’s compliance with Jumpstart and funder regulations
  • Provide information to support the development team’s fundraising efforts
  • Serve as a program liaison to increase communication and collaboration across Jumpstart departments

Management and Operations

  • Assist with resolving operational issues as they arise across Jumpstart departments or within the broader program operations department
  • Ensure all staff are up to date on commitments to stakeholders and ensure ongoing and open communication with national teams
  • Participate and lead program department work groups and team meetings
  • Create systems and structures that improve program efficiency while remaining flexible to environmental, organizational and system changes



  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant professional experience
  • Commitment to Jumpstart’s core values: learning, social justice, community, joy, and inclusive leadership
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in program implementation and partnership management
  • Ability and willingness to travel to assigned locations/sites as necessary
  • Experience and comfort working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and communities
  • Strong interpersonal, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills
  • Solid public speaking, presentation, and written communication skills
  • Highly organized and flexible in a dynamic environment
  • Analytical thinking and strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to take initiative and identify opportunities
  • On-going commitment and interest in social justice or diversity, equity and inclusion work
  • Ability to facilitate team effort while also working independently
  • Competency in Microsoft software, especially Teams, Outlook, Excel, Word and Power Point

Preferred or Ideal

  • Degrees and/or certifications in early education/child development, education, higher education, teaching, social work, non-profit/grant management, or program administration


May have minimal travel (up to three times a year) for team retreats, program visits, and/or conferences


Approximately 15% local and national travel

  • Director of Programs for corporate sites: Flexible location from one of Jumpstart’s Offices in Atlanta, GA; Boston, MA; Chicago, IL; Los Angeles, CA; New York, NY, San Francisco, CA; or Washington DC. Applicants must be able to work from one of these locations on a full-time basis (no remote location)
  • Director of Programs for affiliate sites – Flexible location from one of Jumpstart’s Offices in Atlanta, GA; Boston, MA; Chicago, IL; Los Angeles, CA; New York, NY, San Francisco, CA; or Washington DC or remote location

Salary & Benefits

Salary – $75,000 along with excellent benefits and a great mission-driven work environment
