Position Overview

The Director, Donor Impact and Stewardship is a key position within the Development Division and Donor Impact team and is responsible for maximizing the fundraising opportunities for Jumpstart of mid-level individual donor portfolios.

In addition, this role will be part of building the foundation of a donor recognition strategy that the entire team will utilize, including for the Stadler-Waldron Center.

The ideal candidate has superb attention to detail and project management skills, is highly skilled in building meaningful relationships with donors, and can effectively solicit and utilize donor feedback to inform content that drives revenue growth. The Director, Donor Stewardship reports to the National Director, Donor Impact and is part of a 4-person team, including a Director, Donor Impact (West Coast) and a Director, Donor Impact (Massachusetts).

Specific Responsibilities

Donor Relationship Management

  • Manage the portfolio of approximately 500 mid-level individual donors, leveraging annual fund communications, appeals, and event invitations, supplemented by personalized outreach, to expand the pipeline of prospective major gifts donors
  • Manage a small portfolio of major donors in your immediate geography, deepening their relationship with Jumpstart through meaningful, personalized stewardship and cultivation
  • Partner with Executive and Leadership Team members, as well as other Jumpstart staff, to deepen relationships with funders as needed
  • Collaborate with fellow Directors of Donor Impact and other members of the Development and Marketing & Communications teams to meet Jumpstart’s fundraising goals
  • Provide strategic input to Jumpstart’s fundraising event strategy and execute donor cultivation events in your immediate geography as opportunities arise
  • Support the Local Advisory Board in your immediate geography, working with colleagues across the Development team to leverage the Board to drive fundraising and engagement

Donor Stewardship & Recognition

  • Inform the strategy for and manage the implementation of the Stadler-Waldron Center
  • Understand donors’ interests related to communication, engagement and recognition and ensure a level of connectivity that inspires unrivaled investment in and commitment to Jumpstart
  • Develop the strategies required to ensure all leadership and major donors have an outstanding philanthropic experience when supporting Jumpstart, including building and overseeing a leadership investor recognition program and highly personalized recognition opportunities for top donors
  • Develop and advise on strategies to cultivate, solicit and steward leadership and major gifts from high-net-worth individuals, companies and foundation partners and prospects
  • Partner with Development and Marketing & Communications leadership to advise on ways to engage Jumpstart’s Corps Members, Alumni, staff, children and families in meaningful donor stewardship
  • Partner with Jumpstart’s relationship managers to educate, train and support staff’s efforts to exceed their donors’ expectations



  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant professional experience
  • Commitment to Jumpstart’s core values: learning, social justice, community, joy, and inclusive leadership
  • At least 5-7 years of professional experience in fundraising, sales, or development work
  • Demonstrated success identifying, cultivating, securing, and growing a network of individual donors, with evidence of securing gifts of $10,000 and greater
  • Demonstrated experience delivering superb donor stewardship experiences, including excellent storytelling and impact reporting
  • Experience and comfort working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and communities
  • Superb project management skills
  • Strong communication, including written, public speaking and presentation skills, with evidence of successful relationship management and donor communication
  • Commitment to collaboration and ability to gather input from and help guide colleagues to do high quality donor stewardship, including identifying and implementing best practices
  • Comprehensive strategic thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to plan and implement in a demanding, fast-paced environment
  • On-going commitment and interest in social justice or diversity, equity and inclusion work
  • Ability and willingness to travel to appropriate locations as needed to complete duties of the role

Preferred or Ideal

  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) certification

Start Date

January 2022 (desired start date, yet position open until filled)


Approximately 20% local or regional travel, as needed, to support fundraising events

Salary & Benefits

Salary – $85,000 – $90,000 – commensurate with education and experience; along with excellent benefits and a great mission-driven work environment
