Each year, Jumpstart selects one book to be our official Read for the Record book, to highlight the importance of early literacy and celebrate the power of reading. We work with a publishing partner to create a special edition of the book that includes additional reading tips and guiding questions to help bring the story to life, engage young readers in discussions about the book, and to boost their understanding and enjoyment of reading.
Then, on Read for the Record day (November 7, 2019), we invite everyone around the world to read with us! Teachers read with their classrooms, families read with their children, volunteers host special events at their local libraries and community centers, and even entire cities get involved, with mayors, police officers, sports team mascots, and others dropping into Read for the Record events to help celebrate.

Get the Book
When you order your copy of the special edition campaign book Thank You, Omu! to read with us on November 7, you’ll also be helping to support Jumpstart’s work in communities around the country.

Plan your Event
However you celebrate the power of reading, your participation in Read for the Record helps put more books into the hands of children. Individuals may read at home or visit their child’s classroom as a guest reader, while corporations may plan community-wide reading days and purchase books to donate to local organizations.
