Find a Venue

Do you want to host at your home, your child’s school, your workplace, or in a public space, such as a local business or library?

  • Consider collaborating with local early childhood/literacy organizations to increase the impact of Read for the Record within your community.
  • Contact your local library, community center, children’s hospital, etc., and speak with their community engagement staff to set up an event.

Get the Word Out

Share your event on social media and invite your friends, family, and community members.

On the day of the event, share photos from your event on social media (don’t forget to tag Jumpstart and use our event hashtag #ReadfortheRecord).

Let Us Know How You Did

After you read, report back the total number of children and adults that you read with (including yourself) to help us tally our total! Last year, over 1.5 million adults and children participated in Jumpstart’s Read for the Record, and we hope to break that record again in 2018!

Other Ways to Get Involved

  • Create a fundraising page on Crowdrise from the Read for the Record 2018 Crowdrise campaign or on Facebook from the Jumpstart page. Instructions for setting these up can be found here.
    • Share your Crowdrise or Facebook fundraiser with your personal network on social media and via email. Invite family, friends, and coworkers to help you reach your goal!
  • Host a collection drive.
  • Encourage coworkers and friends to collect school supplies (crayons, markers, construction paper, glue, pencils, erasers, etc.) to use with Jumpstart’s Read for the Record activities at your own event or to donate to a local participating school.
  • Host a kick-off party in early October at your home or in the community.
  • Purchase books to donate to a classroom or school in need. Email rftr@jstart.org for special discounts on large orders.
  • Get the word out on social media.
  • Use this year’s book, Maybe Something Beautiful by F. Isabel Campoy and Theresa Howell and illustrated by Rafael López, as your October book club selection.
  • Share this page with your network for how to get involved with fundraising, registering to read, and spreading the word in the community.

Together, we can help all children build the key language and literacy skills they need to take on the world.
