Join us at the home of Stephanie Blank for an intimate evening celebrating the power of books. We are excited to be joined by special guest Malcolm Mitchell — author, UGA alumnus and star athlete, pro-football player, and Share the Magic founder — to discuss his book, The Magician’s Hat, and how the written word has transformed his own life. Tickets and sponsorships benefit Jumpstart’s work in Georgia and will help to sponsor copies of The Magician’s Hat for Jumpstart children in the Atlanta area. Guests will receive a signed copy of The Magician’s Hat. Mr. Mitchell will not be signing memorabilia or other items.

Please contact Rachel Madariaga, Associate Director of Development, at rachel.madariaga@jstart.org with any questions about attending or sponsoring this event.

I cannot attend, but would like to support Jumpstart’s program.

Special Guest

Malcolm Mitchell, author of The Magician’s Hat, University of Georgia alumnus and star athlete, and wide receiver for the New England Patriots.

As a child, Malcolm’s family faced financial difficulty, but nothing great enough to deter him from gravitating to his hometown tradition, football. Football became a mentor and a lifelong friend, helping him transcend beyond the white lines and creating opportunities where none seemed to have existed before. Malcolm accepted an offer to attend the University of Georgia as a student/athlete. At UGA, he was considered one of the top wide receivers in Division I Football and a top-ten all-time receiver in the University’s history.

During his freshman year in college, Malcolm noticed his ability to thrive on the field did not match his success in the classroom or everyday life skills. As a struggling reader he began to tackle this challenge, and, through perseverance, books became an avenue for expanding his curiosity, creativity, and learning, helping him to reach his full potential. Malcolm graduated in December 2015 with a degree in communications and was drafted by the New England Patriots in May 2016.

In 2015, Malcolm founded the youth literacy initiative, Read with Malcolm, which aims to transform the lives of young students through literacy. In 2016, Read with Malcolm increased its impact by launching Share the Magic Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to promote the long-term benefits of reading and book ownership among students in Title I schools and underserved communities.
