Rountree joins Jumpstart as the organization prepares to celebrate 30 years of impact in early education 

Boston, MA  – Today the Board of Directors of national early care and education nonprofit, Jumpstart for Young Children, welcomed Crystal Rountree as its new Chief Executive Officer. Rountree replaces outgoing CEO Naila Bolus, who announced her departure in June 2023. 

“We begin 2024 and our 30th anniversary year with a new CEO and couldn’t be more excited to welcome Crystal to the helm at Jumpstart,” said Kim Mitchell, Chair of Jumpstart’s Board. “Crystal is a visionary with an impeccable track record who embodies a clear drive for educational equity and we’re looking forward to her leadership of the organization as we head into this new chapter.”

Rountree has more than two decades of experience in education and organizational leadership having recently transitioned from her position as Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue and Development Officer at Teach For America to join Jumpstart. During her time at Teach For America, Rountree led regional teams focused on local community impact. She also led, national strategic initiatives, a team of regional executive directors, as well as recruitment and fundraising efforts enabling positive impact and transformation for students and young people across the US, and within the education sector.  

As Jumpstart’s new chief executive officer, Rountree is leading the national early care and education nonprofit and a dedicated team working on 65 college campuses across 14 states and the District of Columbia providing college students with high-quality training and ongoing coaching poised to deliver Jumpstart’s research-based early childhood curriculum to over 14,000 children living in underserved communities in 2024.



For nearly 30 years, Jumpstart has been fueled by the belief that providing high-quality educational opportunities to all young children prepares them for academic and economic success later in life. Jumpstart advances equitable learning outcomes for young children by recruiting and supporting caring adults to deliver high-quality programming and drive systems change through teaching, advocacy, and leadership. Jumpstart has trained more than 60,000 college students and community volunteers, preparing over 140,000 children for kindergarten success.
