Jumpstart CEO Naila Bolus Congratulates Mark Reilly on appointment to Undersecretary of Education for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
Boston, MA 02/22/23 – On the occasion of today’s announcement of Mark Reilly as Undersecretary & Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Executive Office of Education in Massachusetts, CEO of national nonprofit, Jumpstart for Young Children, Naila Bolus shared the following message:
“We are overjoyed by the news of Mark’s appointment as the Undersecretary & COO of Education for Massachusetts! While we are sad that Mark is leaving Jumpstart after 10 years of transformative service, we wholeheartedly congratulate him on this well-deserved appointment and know that he will continue to drive equity and impact in education now for all children across the state.
“Mark has come to be widely known and trusted by the early childhood community in Massachusetts through his work at Jumpstart where he has driven impact at the intersection of early childhood and higher education and been key in building the state’s diverse educator pipeline in order to advance equitable learning outcomes for young children.
“Mark joined Jumpstart in 2013 and has led its policy and advocacy initiatives to create more equitable early childhood and higher education systems as Vice President of Policy & Government Relations for the last 6 years. Mark previously served as Jumpstart’s Northeast Executive Director and as a Regional Vice President, leading fundraising and managing the expansion and delivery of Jumpstart programming in the region. Prior to joining Jumpstart, Mark served as Chief Legal Counsel to Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, providing legal, policy, and communications advice to the Governor, Lt. Governor, and Cabinet Secretaries as a member of the Governor’s senior staff. Mark’s career in public service began in California as an AmeriCorps*VISTA member at a youth services organization providing educational programming for children in South Central and East L.A.
“Prior to joining the Administration, Mark served on the Steering Committee of the Common Start Coalition and a member of the Federal Child Care Coalition. Mark also led the development of a national coalition to support the expansion of the community service set-aside in the Federal Work Study program. In his local community, Mark worked closely with the school superintendent and curriculum leaders as a member of the District Curriculum Advisory, served as President of the Dedham Education Foundation for six years, and is a leader in the Dedham Coalition for Equity & Inclusion.
