LOS ANGELES (August 8, 2017) — Miss Teen California International, Carly Peeters from Porter Ranch, CA, was crowned Miss Teen International at the Annual Miss Teen International Pageant last Saturday in Charleston, West Virginia. Carly, a dedicated volunteer with Jumpstart in the Los Angeles region, plans to use her new role to promote the importance of literacy among young children through her work with Jumpstart. Carly has a blog dedicated to this cause, Literally Literacy.
“I first started working with Jumpstart in December 2016, and seeing the kids’ faces light up while reading books and learning inspired me to make Literally Literacy my platform. Jumpstart is fueled by the belief that providing equal education opportunities to young children contributes to breaking the cycle of poverty, and I couldn’t agree more.”
Upon being crowned Miss Teen International, Carly shared the personal history that brought her to where she is now:
“My Mom immigrated from the Philippines and taught me that you can do anything you want with a good education,” said Peeters. “She instilled in me a love of reading and learning and I want to pass this love on to at-risk children to help them succeed.”
