Jumpstart and South Jamaica Reads Hosted the 1st Annual South Jamaica Reads College Tour
NEW YORK (April 3, 2017) — Seventy fifth graders and their families from three elementary schools in South Jamaica, Queens (that all host Jumpstart in their preschool classrooms!) were given a special tour of York College (a Jumpstart site) by Jumpstart Corps members.
Current York College Jumpstart Corps members shared stories about their experiences growing up in South Jamaica, Queens, and attending a college that enables them to serve with Jumpstart and give back to the schools in their community.
Additionally, all students and their families attended a workshop given by the director of admissions at York College, the financial aid department, and the Robotics Club (with a live interactive robot!).
Jumpstart is excited to carry on this new tradition as a way to support children and families outside of the classroom and encourage fun and interactive ways of learning together!
