Massnonprofitnews: Jumpstart Gala Raises $663K to Support Child Literacy

May 19, 2016 — Jumpstart, a national nonprofit based in Boston that recruits and trains college students and community Corps members to serve preschool children in low-income neighborhoods, announced that its recent annual gala raised $663,000, beating its goal by 32%.

The Scribbles to Novels gala, held May 12 at the Royal Sonesta Boston, attracted 320 guests, down from last year’s 400, but raised nearly 50% more than last year’s $450,000. Jumpstart had aimed to raise $500,000 this year.
The gala raised approximately 20% toward Jumpstart’s annual fundraising goal, and will help expand Jumpstart’s reach.

Jumpstart Regional Vice President Mark Reilly said, “This year, our efforts were focused on continuing to build our ever-growing list of sponsors and supporters and injecting new life into our annual fundraiser by revamping our live auction with the support of Kathy Kingston of Kingston Auction Company. Kathy’s expertise as a fundraiser and auctioneer was felt in the ballroom at the Royal Sonesta Boston as she clearly demonstrated that the first rule of fundraising is to ask – a philosophy we saw not only in the success of this year’s live auction, but also in the incredible results during the live ask portion of our program.”
