John Fitzgerald Kennedy was the 35th President of the United States, serving from January 1961 until he was assassinated in November 1963. In his short tenure as our country’s leader, President Kennedy created a legacy of service that lasted beyond his lifetime.
He presented a promise and dream of American exceptionalism. President Kennedy challenged Americans to reach beyond our expectations, promising and delivering a man on the moon. He reminded us of our country’s history of service-creating the Peace Corps and VISTA, the older siblings of AmeriCorps and the national service movement-which Jumpstart is a proud leader and member!
As we remember JFK on the 50th year anniversary of his assassination, we honor him by celebrating the 20,000 AmeriCorps members who have served with distinction at Jumpstart and the 4,300 who are part of this year’s Corps.
“…Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.”
