Early education organization to commemorate 20 years of service to preschool children with year-long celebration and new brand identity
BOSTON, MA, February 4, 2013 – Jumpstart, a national early education organization, in celebration of its tremendous growth over 20 years is proud to launch a new brand identity today. To honor the organization’s history, Jumpstart will begin a year-long celebration to commemorate its two decades of service to preschool children in low-income neighborhoods.
The organization publicly kicked off their anniversary celebration on January 29th, with a dinner honoring its founders, Aaron Lieberman, CEO, Acelero Learning; Jordan Meranus, CEO and Co-Founder, Ellevation Education; David Carmel, Principal, Carmel Asset Management; and Rebecca Weintraub, Associate Physician, Division of Global Health Equity, Brigham and Women’s Hospital along with the organization’s first donors, Dale Atkins, Author & Psychologist and Rob Rosen, Business Executive; and Pearson and the Pearson Foundation. Additionally, on January 30th, Jumpstart hosted a Congressional breakfast chaired by US Representatives Rosa DeLauro (D CT-3) and Ed Royce (R CA-39), Jumpstart’s long-time supporters. The festivities will continue throughout the year with anniversary-themed Scribbles to Novels fundraising events and a commemorative Jumpstart’s Read for the Record® celebration in October 2013.
“Jumpstart has come a long way in 20 years — from 15 Corps members serving 15 preschool children in 1993 to 4,300 Corps members serving 11,000 preschool children today,” said Jumpstart president and CEO Naila Bolus. “We now stand poised for the next chapter in Jumpstart’s history and look forward to serving many more children as we grow, inspiring new champions of education, and increasing advocacy for high-quality early childhood education throughout our country.”
In low-income neighborhoods, children start kindergarten 60 percent behind their peers from affluent communities, leaving them unprepared when it’s time to start school. When children start school behind, they are more likely to stay behind for the rest of their lives and this gap only widens over time. The language and literacy skills instilled in preschool children by the Jumpstart program help set them on a successful path in both school and life.
Jumpstart began at Yale in 1993 from the vision of four college students who wanted to change the circumstances of children living in poverty. Jumpstart implemented its first program at the Edward Zigler Head Start Center in New Haven, Connecticut. Initial results reported that 100% of the children enrolled in the Jumpstart program improved in the classroom. From this one preschool classroom in New Haven, the organization now operates in more than 600 classrooms nationwide.
Jumpstart is now looking forward to the next 20 years and in the spirit has unveiled a new brand identity. In support of organization-wide efforts to enhance the brand and increase its presence, this new visual identity includes a redesigned logo, energizing colors, modernized photography and enhanced messaging. Weaved into this rebranding is the message, “children first,” the organization’s new tagline which will keep the mission at the forefront. The rebranding serves as the beginning of a new era for Jumpstart and children served across the country.
