What We Do

We believe that every child should have the opportunity to reach his or her potential, but 63% of Southern California children do not read at grade level by third grade; by eleventh grade, 62% remain behind. Jumpstart intervenes early to help close the achievement gap by preparing children to begin kindergarten ready to learn, succeed in school, and graduate.

We recruit and train community members and college students from Southern California's top universities to support children and teachers in under-resourced preschool classrooms. Our results are extraordinary; Jumpstart children make tremendous language, literacy, and social-emotional gains, outperforming comparison groups for eleven consecutive years.
