JUMPSTART'S READ FOR THE RECORD ENGAGES 150,000 CHILDREN
On August 24, 2006, with the support of hundreds of thousands of individuals across America, Jumpstart set a Guiness World Record™ for the number of children reading the same book in a single day with adults. More significantly, we garnered national attention for the importance of early learning highlighted by a live event on NBC's "Today" show hosted by Matt Lauer, our Campaign spokesperson. REGIONAL PARNTERS SUPPORT JUMPSTART FROM COAST TO COAST From Boston to San Francisco, Jumpstart continues to expand its impact thanks to the incredible generosity of corporations and foundations. JUMPSTART JOINS NATIONAL SERVICE DAY ON CAPITOL HILL Champions of service – from program staff to private sector supporters to AmeriCorps alumni – participated in a National Service Day on Capitol Hill on September 14. Representatives from programs throughout the United States gathered in Washington, DC to meet with Members of Congress and their staff to share their stories about the impact of national service in their communities. JUMPSTART ADDS EIGHT NEW SITES TO ITS NATIONAL NETWORK This fall, Jumpstart is expanding its Corps member base from 2,500 to 3,100, which will allow us to reach nearly 12,000 children in 19 states and the District of Columbia. NEW PEARSON TEACHER FELLOWS ENTER THE CLASSROOM
Founded in 2001, the Pearson Teacher Fellowship is now supporting its fifth class of outstanding early childhood educators. NATIONAL PARTNERS SHOW SUPPORT THROUGH SPECIAL PROGRAMS Two of Jumpstart's national partners, Pearson and Starbucks, are showing their support once again this fall. The fourth annual Pearson-Jumpstart Challenge took place on September 18. At the golf outing, $111K was raised to benefit Jumpstart. Read more>>
