SODEXHO NAMED JUMPSTART NATIONAL PARTNER
Jumpstart is thrilled to announce that Sodexho has joined as our newest national partner, committing $1.2 million over four years beginning in 2007. Since 2002, the Sodexho Foundation has provided grants to Jumpstart totaling $800,000; they are thrilled to be expanding their support through a multi-year corporate partnership. Through this partnership, Sodexho will support Jumpstart’s efforts to improve early education in order to eliminate the achievement gap, which leads to future social and economic disparities. Sodexho is especially supportive of Jumpstart’s work with college students - encouraging these students to become dedicated community members and to continue their civic-mindedness after graduation. AMERICAN EAGLE RECOGNIZES CORPS MEMBERS' "SPIRIT OF SERVICE" The American Eagle Spirit of Service Award is a scholarship program that celebrates the outstanding service and leadership of college students serving as Jumpstart Corps members. From Jumpstart's network of over 3,100 college student mentors, ten finalists have been chosen who have gone above and beyone the call of duty -- raising money to fund preschool renovations, using spring break to rebuild homes in disaster-torn areas, and touching the lives of hundreds of children through years of Jumpstart service. American Eagle Outfitters, a longtime national partner of Jumpstart, will award each finalist with a $1,000 scholarship. Five winners will be selected later this spring to receive a $5,000 scholarship. To view the list of finalists, clickhere.
Beth Bauer, four-year Jumpstart Tufts Corps member and 2007 American Eagle Spirit of Service Finalist, recently received the 2007 Idealist Campus Conference "Practical Dreamer" Award. Idealist felt that Beth's nomination, focused on her many years of service with Jumpstart, best fit the criteria of "...a student who has demonstrated outstanding leadership, creativity, and innovation in imaging a better world." This award will be presented along with a $400 gift certificate to Powell's Books(R) on the evening of March 23 during the Opening Ceremony of the Idealist Campus Conference in Chicago (hosted by Jumpstart partner DePaul University). Beth is a fine example of the type of college students motivated to serve children through the Jumpstart program... congratulations, Beth!
