Every child is born with the potential to succeed, but studies have shown that children from low-income backgrounds start kindergarten 60% behind their peers. And most of the time, they never catch up. This can lead to poor academic performance, higher dropout rates, and even jail time.
But it doesn’t have to be this way.
Jumpstart makes a difference in children’s lives early on, which puts them on a path to success. So, when you support our efforts, you make a direct impact on the life of a child and his or her future. This has a ripple effect that makes a difference in the community, city, and the entire country at large.
All it takes is the desire to make a difference… and you.
Together, we can close America’s achievement gap and give every child the tools he or she needs to live full lives and make our world a better place.
Jumpstart relies 100% on college students, community members and others to volunteer their time and expertise to serve children and instill a life-long love of learning and literacy.
So, how can you get involved? In a million different ways! We have openings in just about every area of Jumpstart—it’s just a matter of finding the right fit.
Work with small groups of preschool children on language and literacy skills, right in your community, and attend training and service days. The single most powerful experience you can have volunteering is with Jumpstart.
The folks that make Jumpstart move, Team Leaders coach teams of Corps members, plan and implement Jumpstart sessions and facilitate meetings.
Like people? If you answered with an emphatic, “Yes!” then you’d make a great Coordinator. Recruit, train, and manage volunteers for short and long-term service projects.
