A celebration of the power of the written word.

Jumpstart’s Scribbles to Novels is a unique fundraising event that celebrates the power of written word. Across the country, we unite prominent authors, celebrities and leaders in early childhood education to underscore the importance of literature in children’s lives and reinforce our critical mission—to work toward the day every child in America enters kindergarten prepared to succeed.

Highlights 2014

On May 31, 2014, more than 300 prominent business and community leaders joined Jumpstart at Scribbles to Novels at The Fairmont in San Francisco. Condoleezza Rice, 66th Secretary of State, joined as our featured guest and spoke about the importance of literacy and education in her life. Jumpstart Corps member Joanna Guerrero, and recent graduate from Saint Mary's College, spoke about her Jumpstart experience and the impact she has made on the children she served. Scott McGrew from NBC Bay Area served as our evening’s emcee.

In honor of his support of Jumpstart over the past several years, Gary Syman was presented with the Greg Johnson Leadership Award. Thanks to the generosity of our Dinner Committee, attendees, and sponsors, Jumpstart’s 2014 Scribbles to Novels in San Francisco raised $575,000 to support our programs throughout the Bay Area.
