Susan Werley Slater joined Jumpstart in July of 2004 as a Site Manager at Tufts University. After a year, Susan was promoted to a program director and then Senior Program Director.  In 2007, she became the Executive Director.  As Executive Director of the Northeast Region, Susan was responsible for managing all regional staff and site staff in New England.  She was responsible for ensuring Jumpstart program quality, managing Jumpstart's relationships with partners, overseeing fundraising and leading Jumpstart's efforts to expand its reach within the region.  Susan also oversaw the Atlanta and Washington DC markets.

Prior to working for Jumpstart she did her Masters work in Child Development at Tufts University. She focused on adolescent social and emotional development by conducting a qualitative study on peer group memberships in four different contextual settings and also policy and leadership within the field of Early Education. Susan has also worked for the Boston Children’s Museum where she helped design educational kits and conducted cultural development research. Susan is a Summa Cum Laude, Phi Betta Kappa graduate of McDaniel college where she completed an industrial efficiency study of pre-service teaching and educational partnerships between McDaniel College and the surrounding county public schools. Susan is a graduate of the Schott Fellowship in Early Care and Education, which is a one-year public policy leadership program designed to create the next generation of early care and education policy leaders in Massachusetts. During the fellowship, she published a paper on the state of Early Education and Care Assessment in Massachusetts. She is continuing to pursue multiple policy issues throughout the Commonwealth. Susan is an alum of Lead Boston, and a 2011 Boston Business Journal 40 under 40.
